Preschool Halloween

Matt's preschool class got dressed up the week of Halloween and went out to Trick or Treat through the building. It was great to see all of them dressed up and going from room to room gathering all of their treats. Here are a few pics of Matt and all his friends!

Here he is trying to squeeze out of the way after he got his treat.

They are off to the next room! Peter Pan and Speed Racer are along for the fun!

Every little pirate needs a pink poodle for a friend! Here's Jonathan posing with Emma, a friend from the daycare at work.

Lean, baby, lean! Matt's getting costume adjustments in the background.

Here's the daycare gang that afternoon.

Another shot of the gang! My little pirates were so tolerant of their costumes!

Field Trip!

Matt's preschool had a field trip to a local pumpkin patch so we all jumped in the car and headed to Irvine to meet up with the class. Although it was extremely HOT, we had a great morning with the kids. They got to go on a tractor ride, pick some veggies on the farm, go to the petting zoo, and pick a pumpkin.

Here we are on the tractor ride. Jonathan actually fell asleep and took about an hour nap in the carrier. I couldn't have been happier about it.

The sheep came over to see Nick and Matt, but then he started trying to eat Matt's bag!

Not too sure what this look was for, but he and Nick were in the corn maze at the time.

So Happy Together!

The boys hang out in our room a lot these days. It's how we are able to get the morning going and how I am able to get the night time routine started when I am alone with them. They are really starting to play with each other and since Jonathan started crawling (yes, he's FINALLY crawling as of this week!!!) they are together even more. Matt isn't always happy about it, but they both light up when they see each other in the mornings and that's enough for me right now!

Here they are watching some Backyardigans and playing at the foot of our bed.

Jonathan can't keep his hands to himself these days and reaches out to touch Matt whenever he gets the chance. Can't you just see the love as Matt ignores him!

This one is a bit blurry, but I couldn't resist posting it. They just crack me up!

Painting out Back

When we got home from the pumpkin patch, we headed out back to do some painting. I figured we'd give it a shot and get both the boys involved.

Matt started his pumpkin with a bit of caution.

Jonathan's little pumpkin was still in Matt's possession so Jonathan held onto the ball for a while.

Painting is SO fun!

I made the mistake of trying to get a family handprint picture and Jonathan swiped me in the face before I got him cleaned off. Look at the devilish look he's giving Nick in this picture. He cracks me up!

Now Matt gets the crazy look from Jonathan!

Still laughing about Mommy's painted face!

Petting Zoo and Pumpkin Patch

We headed off to the pumpkin patch at the petting zoo for a little fall fun! We stopped to see the animals before venturing next door for the pumpkins.

Matt discovered that not all coin operated toys work! Notice the big empty hole on the side of the horse. He was quite confused about where we needed to put the quarters.

Matt decided that the goats couldn't get enough hay on their own, so he helped feed them for a bit.

Matt was cracking up that the goat was trying to come in the house with him.

We headed over to the pumpkin patch to check out the Halloween fun. Matt took a picture with the big stuffed spider they were giving away.

They had a little hay maze and Matt had a blast running around inside it.

Matt looks like he's lining up for a big drive and the bucket is about to get launched across the sandbox!

Jonathan had a blast playing in the sandbox. It was a lot of work to keep the sand out of his mouth, but fun watching him play and dig his toes into the sand.

In true Trevino form, we got so interested in other things, we forgot to get the traditional pictures of the kids in front of the pumpkins. Oh well, the boys had fun, even without the posed shots with the pumpkins.

Bounce House Fun!

We were all hyped up to take the boys to Disneyland a couple of weekends ago, but then the 3 year old emotional roller coaster started, and we just didn't want to make the big trip for nothing. So, we headed up to Mission Viejo to Jumpin' Jammin' and let Matt run around there for a couple of hours. He had a blast, and as you can see, so did Nick!

Here they are in the bounce house. I couldn't get a good shot with them looking at me while jumping, but the action shots are pretty entertaining!

They stopped long enough to peek out at me and Jonathan.

I think Jonathan was trying to practice his pirate speak in this picture! "Arrrrrrgh!"

More goofy expressions from our little guy!

He started coming after me and trying to climb over the blocks in this one.

Matt lauched a ball toward Nick while Jonathan and I played on the other side.

A little time for tickling the ivories!

He looks like he is playing a masterpiece here.

Playing Together

In the fall, there's a lot of cardinal and gold wearing in our house. Even though the boys don't get to watch many of the games since they are either at nap time or after bed time, they wear their USC colors proudly. Last Saturday I caught them playing together in the living room and was able to get a few pictures!

One of Jonathan's favorite spots is parked in front of the Fisher Price farm. He likes to put the animals through the windows and doors and then look at me as if I took all of them away from him when they end up on the other side. He's quite a character.

Matt has been working hard on potty training! He's doing really well, and earning "special prizes" when he reaches the end of his row on his sticker chart. Here he is proudly playing with his new forklift, complete with pallets.

I am thinking Jonathan is missing his buddy Van from daycare because many things he does are a lot like things Van used to do. He often smiles and straightens out his legs and all limbs move in unison when he gets excited. Van, we all miss you!

Matt shows off his pop bead necklace he made just for Jonathan's amusement!

Halloween Costume Preview

My little pirates needed a costume fitting to make sure everything fit before Halloween. So, the other night, we broke open the bags, and tried on the costumes. Matt was reluctant at first, and Jonathan tried immediately to eat his shirt! The boys gradually stepped up and modeled their costumes for me!

Jonathan noticed Matt's earring and tried to reach for it!

If you ask Matt, a pirate says "Arrrrrrr!"

Jonathan felt right at home in his costume and just kept playing, costume and all.

He spotted Matt in his costume when I took this picture.

Matt is working on potty training right now, and his first self-initiated need to go to the potty couldn't come at a worse time. Unfortunately I went through a minute of panic because he said "I went potty" instead of "I need to potty". I ripped off that pirate costume as fast as I could in an attempt to save it from an accident. Luckily, he didn't go until we got in front of the potty! We're getting closer...

Firehouse Open House

Last weekend our local fire station had an open house, so Matt and I headed over for the quick trip! He protested leaving the house because his toys and his daddy were there (while Jonathan napped). I was able to get him in the truck somewhat willingly and off we went. He claimed he wasn't interested the entire ride there and then looked as if he wasn't interested when we got there too. I was a bit disappointed he was so pouty, but that is how life is these days with our multiple personality almost 3 year old!

We got a tour of the station and Matt willingly took the hat and sticker he was offered. That was about it. I fought to get the picture with the truck.

He was looking up at the American flag hanging from the ceiling.

20 minutes after our arrival, we were heading home. He was actually answering me when I asked, "Did you have a good time?" Although he looks like he is screaming at me, he was really saying "YEAH!!!".

Amazingly enough, after the fight to get him there, and the apparent boredom while we were there, he quickly told his daddy how much fun we had during our short visit. It's always an adventure in our house!

9 months (a month ago!)

Jonathan is 3 days shy of being 10 months, so I thought I should finally get around to updating on how things are going with him and his stats from his check up (about 3 weeks ago). I'm a bit behind on a lot around here!

Jonathan is doing well. At his check up he weighed 22 pounds, 1 ounce and was 29 1/2" long. He's a big boy, and is in the 70th and 80th percentiles. His head circumference is in the 80th percentile, so he's growing into it! He has recently started getting his belly off the ground, on his hands and knees, but hasn't started moving. That is, unless you count lunging forward, head first without moving arms! YIKES! He does well moving around on his belly both in circles and backwards, but the forward movement is still a mystery to him! Matt was the same way. On the way out of the room, the doctor said goodbye and Jonathan quickly looked her way and said "ba". We looked at each other to verify if we both heard it. It was a surprise to me as he had just started waving shortly before that. He also recently started signing "milk" and I think I have heard a variation of "all done" a few times now. We're anxious to get him talking or at least signing, so maybe we can stop the squealing (see below)!

He's got 4 teeth with two more on the way, so he's a drooling mess right now! He eats everything in sight, which is a blessing since he's still squealing at an octive that might break glass one of these days! It's usually when he's happy that he squeals, unless of course he's run out of food in front of him or you're feeding him too slowly. What are we going to do when our boys are teenagers???

Here are a couple of pictures from some playtime one morning on the floor in our bedroom. You can't see all the teeth, but they're there! Believe me!

I think this was one of few times when his mouth is closed! Notice the drool.

A Day at the Beach

Last weekend there was a festival on the pier, so we packed up the boys and headed toward the beach. Matt wasn't into the festival, but he wanted to make sure he saw the train and touched the sand. So, we walked the pier and made our way to the beach. Luckily Amtrak went by twice while we were there, so he got to see the BIG train.

Here are Matt and Nick looking at the surfers during the surfing competition.

They smiled for the camera for this one. We really need to get Matt to just smile, because saying "cheese" gives us this face every time!

He found a cone on the beach and it became his toy for about 10 minutes. He was quite entertained dragging it around and putting sand in the top. It's amazing what amuses them at this age!

I had Jonathan in the carrier. I am still amazed at how much easier things are when I carry him in it. He cracked me up in this picture. He had his arms crossed on my shoulder with his attention on the crowd gathered watching the surfing contest.
